an observation about the x box controller in halo 2

I seen many posters saying the x box controller does not give you an advantaage that is not true. The controller gives you a very big advantage. i played 1 player with the controller. With the controller I take 5 times as much damage as I did without it. I was wondering why with some players it seemed like it took more shots for them to kill me then it takes to kill me. No wonder some players do that to me. This is why the controller does not only help with aim it helps with the ammount of damage you can take.

So you're saying that we could be owning these pad players even more than we're doing now?

Please, do tell me more! =)

Re: an observation about the x box controller in halo 2

No I am saying that a controller makes you a better player and gives you an advantage. I played with the controller on line I play allot better than I can with a mouse and keyboard. I could barely get kills with a mouse and keyboard. but witha  controller I get quite a few kills. I seem to be able to get more headshots with the controller. With my controller my aim is good but I am terrible at driving vehicles with it. With the keyboard and mouse I can drive well but my aim is not as good. I think that improvement in aim is the controller. I also for some reason seem to take more damage when I use the controller.

If I had a program to capture the video and played one of the harder levels such as the covenanant city infested with flood and played it with a mouse and keyboard and then the controller you would see an improvement in my ability to aim. Also you would notice that with the controller I take less damage from hits. An example is the flood one slash from one of those woild take away almost all my shield with teh keyboard and mouse. With the controller the same hit from a flood zombie only takes about half of my shield. That has to mean that the controller does not only help aim but the ammount of damage that you take. If you are used to a mouse and keyboard it most likely will not give you an advantage. But if you are good with a controller then you do end up with a bit of an advantage. So if you have played the x box version of halo 2 you end up with an advantage using the controller.

No, using the controller does not make you any more resiliant to damage. You are just imagining things. Playing with the controller only adds a little bit of auto-aim.

Well then it is the auto aim that makes the difference then.

Re: RE: how do u install controller?

Very simple you just plug in the controller instal the driver for it and the game works for it. You just have to make sure the controller is selected in the game option.

Tetsuo…once more…really hope the patch brings the possibility of no auto-aim servers

Re: RE: how do u install controller?

No auto aim servers would be a good thing. I just use the wireless controller becausee I like the wireless and force feedback. You can get gaming mice that have force feedback but I ahte having a cord attached. I have tried wireless mice and they suck for gaming. When I tried the wireless mouse with gaming I was playing ut2004 and it sucked. # hours of using it the batteries needed to be charged and the mouse was a bit stuttery. My problem with mice is I always manage to get the friggen mouse cord stuck when I am  in the heat of battle. In fact I wish  I could turn the controllers auto aim off. I know it improves aim allot. Take sniper riffels for example I am not the best with those with the mouse. Yet with the x box controller I can get many headshots without even using the scope. With the mouse I need to use the scope to get kills with it.

No wonder some players do that to me. This is why the controller does not only help with aim it helps with the ammount of damage you can take.

First let me say I have used a controller both console and PC games (motion sickness with mouse) for about 12 years, used one for Halo PC since it's release for 4 years, I played CAL, TWL and KW when nothing else was left.

I was known as solid player with a great pistol, heavy weapons, map awareness, teamwork but did suffer a weaker sniper from the controller use, KMB players used both skill and aimbots against me and my teams over the years and I never once complained about the advantage of the KBM user as I made the choice to play controller.

USB controllers have been around in PC gaming for many many years long before xbox was even thought of, so the "it's pc and not console doesn't fly with me."

The mouse speeds are part of the balance of the game and in a interview with one designer it was stated that when they tested the KMB players vs controller players there was no advantage from one side to the next.

I have seen both users in pubs and scrims and have seen some great hit % by KBM users and some bad hit % from controller users, I have played H2 only on vista and have outplayed other controller users who have played the xbox version for years, can also now go into h2 on xbox with the same results.

I have always been a controller player and have no desire to change my gaming likes or dislikes because a KBM user might think I somehow am cheating and wants to see me on on KBM.

Indeed H2V has been balanced to 50/50 playing field and the KBM users hate it because they are used to having a advantage that's no longer there,

In my case, all that's happened here is they have balanced the play for the PC controller users who prefer it and might have been at a slight disadvantage from the KBM users, however I would still disable if the option was there so as to not give ANY excuse to the KBM player who gets beatdown and help them since it appears they would need every advantage they can get.

Good info on the release can be found here.

    Please note this section.

"Since this is a Games for Windows branded title, Halo 2 Vista offers Xbox 360 controller support out of the box. The controller option gives PC gamers the ability to experience a near-perfect console experience. In actuality, gamers who use the controller in a multiplayer environment will gain an auto-targeting functionality that MIGHT tip the scales in their favor. But with that said, there’s NO better accuracy than using a mouse and keyboard combo. Using the sniper rifle has NEVER been quicker or more accurate with a mouse."

So to wrap this up, if you find yourself getting owned up by a controller user who has been playing for years on console systems then practice more aim and complain less of aim assist, the good players are above those excuses.

Re: an observation about the x box controller in halo 2

Well you didn’t got the point pisstest.

Look its not the we don’t like people using gamepads… that’s not the point. The problem is not with the hardware, (hell.. pc users have bee using gamepads for decades) the problem is in the software. Namely of the on-line game play of Halo 2.

Microsoft stated that because xbox controller was more slow turning then a mouse it was decide to “balance it with auto-aim”, specifically in the short range weapons (shotgun etc) and also because sniping with a mouse is more precise, the game designers inserted a more “stable firing mode” with the controller.

I don’t have anything against people using gamepads on pc games, as long as they ONLY use the gamepads/controllers, and not “stable firing modes”. Because if that’s faire to use, then why not let keyboard-mouse players use aim-bots?

Of course, games like that already exist in Halo 1, they are the ones were you play with no shields and were you get one shoot-one kill. And my friends if every game mode in halo were like that… welll lets just say that the game would suck.
