Halo On Windows Vista

"Live Gaming on Windows failed to initialize.  This may be because another LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as the Halo 2 dedicated server) is running on the same machine.  Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix this problem."

I keep getting this one error message when I try to play Halo 2 for Vista, on my Vista laptop, it meets all the requirements, and I have tried rebooting, reinstalling, repatching, and nothing works. Help Please.

I only received this message while running a dedicated server service on the same machine.  Make sure you didn't mess with services before and forget to delete the service.

I didn't, I never even installed the dedicated server, or map editor.

this occur when i install vista sp1 on my computer.

It's not SP1 that's causing the problem. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go to task manager. Under Processes check if Halo 2 is running, if it is click on it once and end process. DO NOT CLICK END ANY PROGRAMS YOU DONT KNOW OR IT MIGHT MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER.

Another solution is just to restart your computer. Just restart your computer and it'll work fine.

I had that problem once, but solved real fast, wasn't much of a problem. =)

yea same here, i've tried doing what everyone's suggested, but it still shows that message, but only after I try to install the update

I may have a solution for this if you never found one. I received this same message after installing the latest update for Halo 2 from Halo 2 site(latest as of about 07/12/2008). To fix it, I also had to install the second most recent update (something about "Live" update). Apparently MS/Bungie did not do a good job of creating updates or detecting dependencies when the made the update. As soon as I install the previous update and then reinstalled the latest update, it corrected the problem.
