Halo On Windows Vista

I purchased Halo 2 from work today, but the game will not install or run.

When I insert the disk it opens the installation window, but when I click on any option to Play Now or Install and Play etc, the installer program closes and nothing else happens.

My system is more then required by the game, Vista is updated and activated.

Anyone able to shed some light on this problem ?

haha you got in on part of the problem with the game thats one of the reasons why it was delayed because it did that...looks like you just lost $50...sorry

iv had that problem with other programs try ither A:If you have the icon on your desktop right click on that go to run as administrator B: you can do the same thing inside the cd with auto run or with the start menu icon for it.

I think this was the exact reason why Microsoft postponed the game, however make sure you are running vista with all the latest updates, and if it still doesn't work I wouldn't worry as am sure Microsoft will release a patch soon.

Not likely, took it back to the shop and got a refund.

After a little testing on my PC, I installed a fresh Vista onto a spare Hard Drive and Halo 2 worked fine .. So something on my main Vista install is causing the problem.

I will wait until they fix it up and have another go.

The reason Halo 2 was delayed is because there was something wrong with the Live service... And it is probaly something wrong with your Main version of Vista....

yep definatly would be a driver problem, considering vista is relatively new and all the bugs have yet to be ironed out...

reinstall your sound and gfx card drivers - had a problem when i first ran Halo2 and the graphics were garbled... quick gfx driver download and it's all sweet now =)

Well I'm not sure .. I put in a different Hard Drive, installed Vista, updated all drivers to the same I was using on my old drive, installed all the same aplications etc so it was all setup to the same as my old drive, and Halo 2 works fine.

Went back to my old drive, removed all the apps / drivers etc and re-installed fresh drivers etc, Halo 2 still not working.

So all the drivers / apps were the exact same versions on both my drives .. Just one works and the other didnt .. I have no idea why ..

The only difference between the two Vista installs, is my old one is 'Activated' and the new one is not.  However I doubt 100% thats the reason why .. lol

Wierd... last time something similar happened to me (back in the Win2K days), I found out it was the hard drive that was screwed.

Run a scandisk or another application that is better suited as an hdd diagnostics application. Defraging the hdd sometimes helps.

If all else fails, attribute the error to just... well, bad luck, or even malware activity.

Sounds like you guys don't know what you're talking about.

Easy solution  : Format drive , Install XP , release a directx9 patch for halo 2 , play.

 

Vista is horrible , have reformated the last 3 machines i have purchased back to XP. Vista only games ,, what a joke , only gonna sell several hundred copies if they're lucky. Look at the total posts on this forum compared to other games that are not vista only , very sad. As for my Vista discs , turned them into expensive coasters.

just joined to tell you that if you have this problem what you do is:

Start > Run
Type services.msc

Looking for secondary logon and start it up and vista will install fine.

There is something wrong with Vista .. If it was fine, then I wouldnt need to use your fix to get Halo 2 to work.

Vista itself is fine, it runs all the games / apps I normaly use.

Not having any more trouble then when XP first came out. I've been a Vista user since early days of beta, and I will keep using it until the next version of windows comes out :)

 

I have the exect same problem and nothing helps to solve it.

The service mentioned erlier in this thread is always started as I check it and even restarting it doesn't help.

I have done a lot of searching over the internet, but there doesn't seem to be any solution to this. I'm desperate. Can anyone help?
