Halo On Windows Vista

never have never will use the WASD keyboard mapping - makes no sense to me.

20+ years now I have been using the same keyboard mapping for games, same key is always jump, same key is always crouch, etc. I am trying to map the rightmouse key to be my "move forward", and I cannot. Halo2 tells me it is already defined. Unfortunately, I cannot undefine where it is mapped.

So, is Microsoft telling me that I have to learn a new keyboard control function just to play Halo2? That my keyboard config is NOT truly mappable?

 

You can customize keyboard setting in Halo2. Just go to the screen where you choose player colour and an option for custom keyboard setting will be there.

I have the exact same problem. When trying to re-map any key it says it's assigned already. And yes, this is in the same area you were talking about to go to.

Has any way been found to "TRUELY" customize the KB for Halo 2 vista?  The mouse keys are reserved for duel wielding, I want to set the keys to the config that I have used for years and it just does not work!.  I can change some of the keys but the WSAD config syle/default is just un-acceptable!  I get the same msg about keys already being assigned.  When I finally, accidently, got a mouse key set to what I wanted, it failed to work in game!  Need an update that addresses this and allows the KB to be configed to your hearts contet....  :(

Yeah this sucks. I can't change ANY keyboard settings or mouse settings. My controls are completely different than the default. I haven't even played the game yet and I bought it almost a month ago.

I'm happy I use the Xbox Controller.

I agree with you 100%. Bungie bungled this one but good!
I've run around and changed most of the settings to "X" (why this one can be doubled up I don't know but there it is) and gotten thing almost set the way I want them. The only key I can't get assinged the way I want is "E" for back-up. I keep getting a message about it being assinged somewhere else but I can't find the "somewhere else". Any ideas?
